Plant Care - Kentia Palm

Few plants symbolize the tropics the way palms do. And Kentia Palms are the kings of the palm family. Long, dark green fronds cascade gracefully from heavy stems that look like tree trunks. Even though Kentia's are clssified as upright growers, allow plenty of room for the arching fronds.

All palm trees are not created equal and this plant proves it! Because these plants tolerate a wide range of conditions, their watering requirements can vary widely. Hydroponics to the rescue! With our system, the plant draws up nutrient solution as needed from a reservior at the bottom of the grow pot. Simply follow the water gauge and your plant will enjoy perfect watering every time. Many palms can be finicky growers and react to any change in their environment. Kentia's, on the other hand, tolerate a wide range of growing conditions. (better than almost any other indoor plant of any kind!). Although they prefer bright light, Kentia's don't complain in low light. Most palms draw insects like a magnet (think spider mites) but this plant resists all types of bugs. Finally, almost every palm that I know of strggles with dry air during the winter months, except this one.

Kentia Plams have everything you could ask for from an indoor plant.

Kentia palms are among the more expensive plants because they grow slowly. It takes up to 5 years to produce a 5ft plant!

The benefits of growing this plant makes the price well worth it.

Plant Care Growing with Hydroponics
Light: Kentia Palms prefer bright light but they will tolerate lower light levels too. In fact, I catagorize them as one of the best of the best low light plants for interiors. Always avoid direct sun with these plants.
Low light plants always grow better in Hydroponics because of improved air circulation at the roots.
Water: Because these plants tolerate a wide range of conditions, their watering requirements can vary widely.

Hydroponics to the rescue!

With our system, the plant draws up nutrient solution as needed from a reservior at the bottom of the grow pot. Simply follow the water gauge and your plant will enjoy perfect watering every time.
Water to 1/2 on the gauge, then wait for the system to dry out completely before rewatering. If the plant is in bright light it will drink faster - low light it will drink slower.
Temperature: Just like everything else with these plants, Kentia Palms tolerate a wide range of temperatures.
What to Watch for: These plants resist most insects.
If lower leaves turn yellow faster than new growth appears, you're probably too generous with the water. Allow for more time between waterings.
